Shinkai's 'your name.' Is 1st Work to Place 3 BDs in Japan's Top 10 for 3 Straight Weeks

Makoto Shinkai's your name. (Kimi no Na wa.) film is the first work to place three Blu-ray Disc releases in the top 10 of Oricon's overall Blu-ray Disc chart for three weeks in a row.

The film's Standard Edition Blu-ray Disc release (seen right) has sold a total of 239,843 units to rank #1 in the July 24-30 week, #2 in the July 31-August 6 week, and #2 in the August 7-13 week (selling 12,806 copies for the week). The film's Special Edition Blu-ray Disc release has sold 104,510 units to rank #3 in the July 24-30 week, #7 in the July 31-August 6 week, and #4 in the August 7-13 week (selling 3,140 copies for the week). The Blu-ray Disc Collector's Edition 4K Ultra HD release has sold 134,803 units to rank #2 in the July 24-30 week, #8 in the July 31-August 6 week, and #5 in the August 7-13 week (selling 2,658 copies for the week). All three releases debuted on July 26.

No other work has placed three different Blu-ray Disc releases in the top 10 on Oricon's Blu-ray Disc ranking chart since Oricon began posting the charts in 2008. Tron: Legacy and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides did place three releases in the top 10 for two straight weeks each in 2011. Last week, Shinkai's your name. became the first anime to do so.

In addition, your name.'s Standard Edition DVD release has sold a total of 276,443 copies (selling 21,370 copies for the third week), and has ranked #1 in Oricon's top 10 overall DVD chart for three straight weeks. This makes this DVD release the second in the year to rank #1 for three straight weeks. (Clip! Smap! Complete Singles was the first.)

The film has grossed a cumulative 25.03 billion yen (about US$226 million) as of July 25. It remains the #4 highest-earning film of all time on the Japanese box office chart, just below Disney's Frozen at #3 with 25.5 billion yen (about US$230 million).

Box Office Mojo estimates the film's worldwide total at US$355,298,270 as of July 27. The film has earned an estimated US$5,017,246 in the United States and Canada as of July 27.

The film opened in Japan in August 2016, and has become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, the second highest-grossing Japanese film, and the second highest-grossing anime film.

The film opened in 92 countries and territories, and earned box-office achievements in South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan, in addition to Japan.
