Nintendo Switch Sells 500,000 Units in Japan 3 Weeks Faster Than PS4

Research firm Media Create revealed on Wednesday that Nintendo's new Switch hybrid home/handheld game system has sold 519,504 units in Japan as of March 26, four weeks after its March 3 worldwide release. The system has outpaced Sony's PlayStation 4 over the same time period, with Sony's system having sold 439,810 units in Japan after four weeks. The PS4 reached the 500,000 mark after seven weeks, and sold 519,773 units after its eighth week in Japan. The Switch sold 78,441 units in Japan in its fourth week.
In comparison, the Wii U sold about 627,000 units in its first four weeks when it first went on sale in Japan in December 2012.
The PS4 sold 322,000 units in Japan during its launch weekend, and it sold one million units in the first 24 hours of its launch in the United States and Canada.
