Hetalia Gets 3rd Stage Musical in July
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The staff of the stage musical adaptation of Hidekaz Himaruya's Hetalia - Axis Powers manga announced on Tuesday that a third stage musical adaptation is slated for this July.
The musical's tentative title is Musical Hetalia, with an as-yet-unrevealed subtitle. It will run at the NHK Osaka Hall in Osaka, and at Theatre 1010 in Tokyo.
The first stage musical, Hetalia ~Singin' in the World~, ran at the Zepp Blue Theater Roppongi in December 2015. The second stage musical, Hetalia ~The Great World~, ran at Osaka's Morinomiya Piloti Hall and Tokyo's Theatre 1010 in November. The musical's last performance had a live viewing in theaters nationwide.
Himaruya's original manga takes the archetypal characteristics of countries and regions throughout the world, and anthropomorphizes them as (mostly) bishōnen characters. Right Stuf released the manga in North America in collaboration with its former English-language publisher, Tokyopop, and its Japanese publisher Gentosha Comics.
Hetalia The World Twinkle, the sixth anime season inspired by Himaruya's manga, premiered in Japan in July 2015, and Funimation streamed the series as it aired. Funimation has released all the anime seasons and the Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White! film in North America.
