Seven Seas Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it has licensed Gō Nagai and Rui Takatō's Devilman G manga. The company will release the manga in single volumes beginning on October 17.
Seven Seas describes the story:
When demons begin taking over the bodies of humans, only the strongest survive. When a practicing young witch named Miki Makimura asks her friend Akira Fudo for help with a ritual, the spell is interrupted and Akira is left on the brink of death. His body is overtaken by a powerful being named Amon. Now torn between his humanity and the demon within him, Akira uses his abilities to fight in the war between demons and humans for the future of the world itself!
Seven Seas Editor-in-Chief Adam Arnold stated that the manga is a "perfect entry point" into the Devilman franchise.
Takatō began the spinoff of Gō Nagai's Devilman manga in Akita Shoten's Monthly Champion RED magazine in March 2012 and ended it in December 2013. Akita Shoten published the fifth compiled in February 2014. The "G" in the title stands for "Grimoire."
Nagai launched the original Devilman manga in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 1972. A television anime adaptation of the manga aired simultaneously that year. The anime and manga series have spawned more than a dozen different spinoffs, crossovers, and remakes since 1972, including manga, OVAs, and a 2004 live-action film.
