posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The official website for the live-action television series of Akiko Higashimura's Tokyo Tarareba Musume (Tokyo "What If" Girls) manga revealed on Wednesday that pop trio Perfume will perform the series' theme song "Tokyo Girl."
The romantic comedy series premieres on NTV on January 18.
The cast includes:
Ryōhei Suzuki as Tetsurō Hayasaka
Kentarō Sakaguchi as KEY
Masatoshi Katō is producing the series and Yūko Matsuda is writing the scripts.
In the story, Kaori, Rinko, and Koyuki are three single women who are around 30-years-old. They didn't expect to still be single, and with the Olympics approaching, they're wondering what they can do about it.
Higashimura began the ongoing series in Kodansha's Kiss in March 2014. Kodansha published the sixth volume on September 13. The manga has more than 1.8 million copies in print. The series was nominated for "Best General Manga" at this year's 40th Annual Kodansha Manga Awards, and ranked #2 on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list of best manga for female readers in 2016, and #11 on the 2017 list. Da Vinci magazine ranked it #19 in its "Book of the Year" list.
Higashimura's ongoing Princess Jellyfish manga inspired a 2010 anime, which Funimation released in North America, and a 2014 live-action film. Higashimura's Omo ni Naitemasu also inspired a live-action television series in 2013.
Kodansha Comics publishes Princess Jellyfish in print in English and Crunchyroll offers the manga online.
