This year's 14th issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine is announcing on Friday that Chika Umino's March comes in like a lion (Sangatsu no Lion) manga and NisiOisin's Monogatari novel series will have a crossover story. The story will be titled "Tsukimonogatari Daikōwa Tsubasa Lion." NisiOisin will write the story, and Umino will draw the cover. The story will be published in both a standard edition and a special edition.
The story of the March comes in like a lion manga (pictured at right) follows a solitary shōgi player named Rei and his relationships with a neighboring family. He becomes acquainted with Akari, and two young girls, Hinata and Momo, who also have a large number of cats.
Umino started the series in Young Animal in 2007, and Hakusensha released the 11th compiled volume last September. The series has won several awards including the Manga Taisho award and Kodansha Manga award in 2011. The manga also won the 18th Tezuka Osamu Prizes' Top Award in March 2014.
The manga is getting a television anime adaptation in fall, and two-live action films in 2017.
NisiOisin launched his Monogatari Series of light novels in 2005, and the series consists of 20 volumes. The 21st volume, titled Nademonogatari, is slated for July 28 in Japan. The novels have inspired a string of anime projects from director Akiyuki Simbo and the studio SHAFT.
Vertical published the Kizumonogatari light novel in North America in December 2015, and plans to release the Bakemonogatari light novel series beginning this December, and the Nisemonogatari novels starting in April 2017.
