posted on by Daryl Lee Hale
The Movie Collection entertainment news website began streaming a trailer on Friday for the Gokudō Sakaba Denden ~Gokudō Daisensō Gaiden~ (Yakuza Bar-Room Denden ~Yakuza Apocalypse Side-Story~) flash anime. The video showcases some of the show's characters, including veteran actor Denden (Maestro!), who is starring as himself. The band GROUP Tamashii (Beelzebub, Sgt. Frog) is performing the opening theme song "Denden."
The three-episode anime series is a spinoff of the upcoming film Gokudō Daisensō (Yakuza Apocalypse). The series will stream on GYAO! starting on May 30, and Movie Channel NECO will broadcast the series starting on June 5.
As in the film, Denden will play the boss of a bar, but with a snail motif. The actor's stage name, in part, comes from dendenmushi, which means "snail."
This will be the 65-year-old actor's first voice-acting role.
Flash animation studio DLE Inc. (Glass no Kamen Desu ga, Haiyoru! Nyaru-Ani) is handling the animation and GyaO! will handle streaming.
Gokudō Daisensō will open in Japan on June 20. Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Crows Zero, Ace Attorney) is directing the film.
