Visual Art's/Key game based on 2010 anime to ship May 29

Visual Art's/Key began streaming the opening movie on Friday for the Angel Beats! 1st Beat PC game. The video features Lia's theme song "Heartily Song."

Angel Beats! co-creator Jun Maeda had revealed a possible adaptation in November of 2010. After two years, Visual Art's President Takahiro Baba re-acknowledged the possibility of a game adaptation on Twitter, but stated that the project was not yet at the stage to be announced. The project was confirmed in 2013 and had been delayed multiple times since. Key announced in December that the game is now slated for May 29.

Maeda is credited as the game designer and scenario writer, and Leo Kashida and Kai are also credited as scenario writers. Na-Ga serves as the original character designer.

Pre-orders for the game began on January 30. Those who pre-order the game will receive an unreleased CD single by Angel Beats! anime band Girls Dead Monster, with the song "Million Star." Those who pre-order the game will also receive a reprinting of a specially illustrated autograph board signed by Na-Ga.

The 2010 Angel Beats! anime revolves around protagonist Yuzuru Otonashi, who wakes to find himself in a strange high school setting. Otonashi has no memories prior to waking, but learns that the location is a strange afterlife and all of its inhabitants are deceased. He joins a group that rebels against the afterlife and its primary enforcer, Angel. A young woman named Yuri Nakamura leads the group, called "Shinda Sekai Sensen" (Underworld Battlefront).

Sentai Filmworks released the anime on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in North America.
