3rd Madoka Magica Film Sells 1 Million Tickets in 21 Days

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie -Rebellion- (Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica [Shinpen]: Hangyaku no Monogatari) has sold 1,005,092 tickets for 1,391,457,150 yen (about US$13.884 million) in the 21 days since it opened on October 26. The film enters its fourth weekend on Saturday, and it is still playing in 129 theaters nationwide.
The film debuted at #1 by selling 271,279 tickets for 436 million yen (about US$4.47 million) in its opening weekend. It then dropped to #2 in box office earnings its second weekend. (It dropped to #3 in the raw number of tickets sold.) It earned over 1 billion yen (US$10 million) by its 13th day on November 7.
The new Madoka Magica film is the third film from a late-night television anime to top the 1-billion-yen threshold, after K-ON! and this year's anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day film. The animeanime.jp website postulated that the film is within range of surpassing the K-ON! film's final box office total of about 1.9 billion yen.
