Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica [Shinpen]: Hangyaku no Monogatari (Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie -Rebellion-) topped the Japanese box office this past weekend with 400,003,600 yen (about US$4 million) on 129 screens. Warner Bros. opened the film on Saturday and sold 271,279 tickets.
#2 at the box office was Toei's Eiga Dokidoki! Precure Mana Kekkon!!? Mirai ni Tsunagu Kibō no Dress (Dokidoki! Precure the Movie: Mana's Getting Married!!? The Dress of Hope Linked to the Future). The film earned 213,410,200 yen (US$2,186,390) from 191,918 tickets sold. That is 10.3% more at the box office and 10.4% more tickets than last October's Eiga Smile Precure: Ehon no Naka wa Minna Chiguhagu! film at its opening. The Smile Precure! film eventually earned a total box office of 910 million yen (US$9.3 million). The newest film earned the most at the box office of any Precure film that opened in the fall; the previous record-holder was 2010's Heartcatch Precure! Hana no Miyako de Fashion Show…Desu ka!?, which eventually earned a total of 930 million yen.
TOHO's live-action film adaptation of Ryo Ikuemi's shōjo manga Kiyoku Yawaku opened at #7.
