Leiji Matsumoto exhibits collection in Tokyo next month
Manga creator Leiji Matsumoto (Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999) has unveiled nine unpublished manuscript pages from manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka's early years. The collection, which Matsumoto has archived at his own home, includes three pages from Tezuka's early monumental science-fiction work Metropolis. The Metropolis pages are from 1949, three years after Tezuka's debut as a published manga artist.
The B6-size pages also included previously unpublished drafts from Tezuka's Yūbijin (Tailed Man), Issennen-go no Sekai (The World 1,000 Years Later), and Fuhyōjima (Buoy Island), as well as one page from an unknown title.
The pages will appear in an exhibit that will open in Tokyo's Museum of Contemporary Art on June 29.
