IGN: Next Xbox to Be 6 Times Faster, Ship in Late 2013
posted on by Justin Sevakis
The entertainment news site IGN reported on Tuesday that Microsoft's next Xbox video game console will ship in late October or early November of 2013. Citing unnamed "sources close to the project," IGN said that the new console will be six times as powerful as the current Xbox 360 console.
Adding to earlier reports from tech blogs Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, the site predicts that the graphics processor for the new system will be based on AMD's 6000 series GPU architecture, specifically modeled from the Radeon HD 6670 model. The 6670 supports DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D processing, and 1080p HD hardware video decoding. IGN speculates that the resulting chip should yield 20% better graphics performance than Nintendo's forthcoming Wii U console.
According to IGN, developers are expected to receive the first development kits for the system this August.
