The production company Animetropolis announced at the American Film Market on Saturday that it signed IDA (International Digital Artists) as an animation production partner for the computer-animated feature adaptation of the fantasy novel Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams. IDA is best known for producing the CG anime adaptation of Motofumi Kobayashi's military animal manga Cat Shit One (Apocalypse Meow).
The young-adult novel Tailchaser's Song follows the adventures of a cat named Fritti Tailchaser, "a ginger tom cat of rare courage and curiosity, a born survivor in a world of heroes and villains." Tailchaser goes in search of his female friend Hushpad in a strange world populated by both feline-like creatures and furless creatures known as M'an.
With Cat Shit One: The Animated Series, IDA became the first Japanese animation studio nominated by the Visual Effects Society for the VES Awards. The producers of the new Tailchaser's Song project are Animetropolis partners Paul Alvarado-Dykstra and Samantha Inoue-Harte and IDA President Junya Okabe. Fire Duck's Chris Rydo and Bethany Rhoades serve as associate producers and co-wrote the script. Williams himself is serving as a creative consultant.
