Cat Sh*t One Nominated by Visual Effects Society

posted on by Egan Loo
Deus Ex: Human Revolution video game trailer's VFX staff also nominated

The Visual Effects Society announced on Monday that it nominated Cat Shit One: The Animated Series for the Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Short category in the 9th Annual VES Awards. The February 1 awards ceremony recognizes "outstanding visual effects artistry" in various fields including film, television, and videogames.

The nomination lists director Kazuya Sasahara, producer Junya Okabe, art director Tomohisa Ishikawa, and concept artist Yoshiyuki Okada by name. Cat Shit One: The Animated Series is competing against Looney Tunes - Coyote Falls, Day & Night, Paths of Hate, and Tick Tock Tale for the award.

The international team that worked on the trailer for the Deus Ex: Human Revolution video game was also honored in the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Video Game Trailer category. The team includes VFX producer Kazuyuki Ikumori (Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Final Fantasy games) and VFX supervisor Mitsuharu Fukai (Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games).

Cat Shit One: The Animated Series adapts Motofumi Kobayashi's manga about American soldiers who happen to be cute animals in the Cat Shit One recon group. ADV Manga released three volumes of the original Cat Shit One manga under the title Apocalypse Meow in North America. The production company IDA Entertainment had announced last year that it planned to release the anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in the United States, although the anime is not currently available. IDA has been working towards an eventual 12-episode television series version of Cat Shit One.
