Maiden Japan, Section23 Add Himawari Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
The new North American entertainment label Maiden Japan (Papillon Rose, Glass Maiden) announced on Thursday that it acquired the 2006 Himawari! anime series. Maiden Japan and Section23 Films will distribute the series with English subtitles on DVD and digital formats.
In the story, a girl named Himawari Hinata dreams of becoming a ninja after being saved by one when she was little. Now, she is off to study at Shinobi Gakuen, a school for female ninja (kunoichi). On her first day, one of her teachers saves her life. The teacher, Hayato Marikoji, is not a ninja at all, but rather the instructor who trains the kunoichi to act like normal people. Hayato happens to have the same mark on his neck as the ninja who saved her life when she was little.
GoDo created the anime series at the anime studio GENCO, and Shigenori Kageyama (Bavi Stock, Mask of Zeguy) directed off scripts supervised and written by Mamiko Ikeda (D.C. ~Da Capo~, Di Gi Charat Nyo, Emma: A Victorian Romance, Sgt. Frog). Seiji Kishimoto (Elfen Lied, Nuku Nuku) adapted the original character designs by Okama (Getsumen to Heiki Mina, Glass Fleet, Saint October) for animation.
