Heidi/Green Gables Lyricist Eriko Kishida Passes Away
posted on by Egan Loo
Eriko Kishida, the writer and lyricist who penned the theme songs for the Alps no Shōjo Heidi and Anne of Green Gables television anime series, passed away in a Kanagawa Prefecture hospital on April 7 due to meningioma. She was 82.
Kishida was born in Tokyo and had graduated the Tokyo University of the Arts with the intent of becoming an artist. However, an illness led her down the path of writing. Her father was the late playwright Kunio Kishida, and her younger sister Kyōko Kishida was an actress who passed away five years ago.
As a children's book author and a poet, Kishida wrote Kaba-kun, Kaze ni Iro o Tsuketa Hito Dare, Isoganakutemo Iinda yo, and other stories. She also wrote the lyrics of the theme songs for Alps no Shōjo Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, A Dog of Flanders, and other popular children's television anime. Kishida was continuing to publish new works even this year, before she was hospitalized.
