The North American anime distributor Funimation announced that the PlayStation Home service is hosting the first episode of Gonzo's Afro Samurai mini-series for free from April 15 to April 21. The entire 5-episode series and the Afro Samurai: Resurrection sequel movie are already available for download on the PlayStation Network for US$1.99 per episode and US$15.99 for the movie (US$9.99 for the standard-definition version).
The Yahoo! Japan website has begun streaming two promotional videos for Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha), the second of Hideaki Anno and Khara's four theatrical remakes of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime series, on Thursday. The film's 2.22 version is the extended Blu-ray/DVD cut with deleted scenes. The first 115-second promotional video is the same one that already ran at last month's Tokyo International Anime Fair and on the official website, but it has no geographical restrictions on Yahoo! Japan. The second promotional video is a 15-second Blu-ray and DVD commercial. The two videos require the Microsoft Silverlight browser plugin, which is available on Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. Yahoo! Japan is also surveying fans on whether they want a life-size Evangelion unit constructed — and if so, which Evangelion unit.
The North American manga publisher Vertical is currently hosting a preview for the first volume of Kou Yaginuma's Twin Spica science-fiction manga. Twin Spica's near-future coming-of-age story follows a girl named Asumi who is going to a space academy. With a little push from her rocket design engineer father, Asumi studies to be an astronaut. Asumi's choice is influenced by a family tragedy and a figure from the past. Vertical is currently previewing an introductory story to the manga titled "Asumi."
