posted on by Egan Loo
The Adventures of Hutch the Honeybee (Konchu Monogatari Minashigo Hutch), the 1970-1971 classic television anime series from Tatsunoko Production (Gatchaman, Yatterman, Casshern), will get its first film remake which will open in Japan on July 31, 2010.
The original anime followed a honeybee named Hutch who survives the destruction of his beehive by wasps. Hutch embarks on a journey to find his mother. The film will have a new story that deals with interactions with humans, as well as a new girl character named Amy.
Kundō Koyama, the writer of the Oscar-winning film Departures (Okuribito), is producing the renamed Mitsubachi Hutch (literally, Hutch the Honeybee) film. Tetsuro Amino (Macross 7, Iron Leaguer, Broken Blade) is directing the project. The script writer and character designer is Noah Kawai, the character concept designer for the 1974 Konchu Monogatari Shin Minashigo Hutch sequel television series. (Besides the 1974 television sequel, there was also a 1989-1990 Konchu Monogatari Minashigo Hutch television remake.)
