Moribito Confirmed to Debut on Adult Swim on August 24

The Publishers Weekly trade news magazine has confirmed that Cartoon Network's Adult Swim television network will premiere the Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit (Seirei no Moribito) anime series on August 24 in the United States. The series adapts Nahoko Uehashi's intricately detailed fantasy novel about a spearwoman who protects a prince from his own father and other enemies. The North American publisher Scholastic published the novel in English in early June.
Media Blasters picked up the distribution rights for the anime from Geneon Entertainment, but Media Blasters CEO John Sirabella revealed that Cartoon Network had already negotiated for the television rights before his company became involved. The anime features Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex director Kenji Kamiyama and music composer Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, and Ringu films). Scholastic will publish the second Moribito novel, Moribito - Guardian of the Darkness, next April.
