Bandai Entertaiment Gets Tamagotchi Feature Film

Second theatrical anime based on Bandai's original electronic pet
The North American distributor Bandai Entertainment has announced at its Project A-Kon panel on Friday that it acquired the Eiga de Tōjō! Tamagotchi Doki Doki! Uchū no Maigotchi!?, the first feature-length anime film based on Bandai's original electronic pet. This is actually the second theatrical project based on the franchise, since Bandai produced the Tamagotchi Honto no Hanashi theatrical short during the toy line's first boom in 1997. The Bandai toy company and its Bandai Visual subsidiary in Japan also produced a 1997-1998 television series, Anime TV de Hakken! Tamagotchi. The Tamagotchi! feature garnered over 700,000 viewers and over 750 million yen (about US$7.5 million) at the Japanese box office.
