Japanese Dōjinshi Chain Launches Online Download Store
posted on by Egan Loo
Comic Toranoana, the Japanese retail chain best known for selling dōjinshi manga and goods, launched the Toranoana Download Store on November 22. The online website offers dōjinshi manga, CG art collections, and dōjin games, and it plans to offer dōjin music as well. The store gives dōjin creators the option of using Keyring PDF, a copy-protected version of Adobe's Portable Document Format standard. Most of the currently available manga and art collections sell for well under 1,000 yen (US$9.00), and many games sell for under 2,000 yen (US$18.00).
To promote the download store's opening, Toranoana is holding a campaign from December to February in which registered users get free material. The campaign will offer a free adult game for Windows, exclusive weekly wallpaper commissioned from participating artists, and double the buyer points on purchases.
