Scott McCloud's Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels has won the 2007 Quill Award in the Best Graphic Novel category. News achors Al Roker and Ann Curry announced this year's winners on The Today Show on the American television network NBC Tuesday. In his book, which is presented in comic format, McCloud uses examples from a variety of Western and Japanese comics to show how the world's best graphic novelists create compelling stories. He is also the author of Understanding Comics and Reinventing Comics, both of which look at the technical and artistic dimensions of drawing sequential art.
Sponsored by NBC and Reed Business Information, the Quill Awards aim to "recognize excellence in writing and publishing." Osamu Tezuka's Ode to Kirihito was also nominated for a 2007 Quill in the same category.
