Academics of Pokemon to be published

According to a post on the Anime/Manga Research Circle ML, a volume of academic articles on the Pokémon franchise is set to be published sometime in February 2004 by Duke University Press. Entitled "Pikachu's Global Adventure: The Rise and Fall of Pokémon," and edited by Dr. Joseph Tobin (Arizona State University), it will include chapters discussing the various components of the franchise (video games, collectible card games, anime series), their reception in Japan, the U.S., and other countries, the eventual "fall of the Pokémon empire," and the overall relevance of Pokémon to "children's media culture." This book is a result of the "Nintentionality, or Pikachu's Global Adventure" academic conference, which was held at the Manoa campus of the University of Hawaii in November 2000.
