Mononoke Hime to see July 9 release
posted on
In a phone conversation with ANN, a Miramax representative has confirmed a July 9th release date for the highly anticipated "Princess Mononoke" English dub. The source described the release as "top 10", which is thought to be approximately the size of the initial release of the Academy Award-winning film "Elizabeth". Various Japanese sources are quoted as saying it will be seen on as many as "1000 screens in 100 cities." (ANN asked for more information, but our faxes went ignored.)
Stay Tooned is reporting that Hyperion Books (Disney's publishing division) is planning on releasing an English version of the Princess Mononoke art book. The content, besides English translation and reversing of page order, is said to be unchanged. While no firm date was set, it is possible that they are aiming for a release around the same time as the film. ANN could not confirm this information.
Meanwhile, the new all-digital "My Neighbor Yamada-kun" is scheduled for a July 10th release in Japan, the same day as "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace." The film, which is being distributed by Shochiku, is said to be behind schedule, and and Studio Ghibli God Hayao Miyazaki held an emergency meeting on April 6 to work on the problem, according to a Japanese tabloid.
