Tokyo Game Show 2021's Physical Event Is Significantly Low-Key
posted on by Kim Morrissy
Last year, Tokyo Game Show canceled its in-person event and held an online event instead from September 23 to 27. The online event was once again the focus this year, but a physical event was held for the press and influencers at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba.
As a result of the online-first approach and the ongoing efforts to facilitate social distancing, Tokyo Game Show's physical event was significantly low-key this year. The convention center was mostly deserted, and the entire event was contained within a single hall.
The participating game companies brought out a very limited roster of demos and displays to the show floor. SNK's The King of Fighters XV arguably had the largest presence at this year's event. CAPCOM made do with a smaller space but still managed to squeeze in a photo spot with a life-sized Palamute from Monster Hunter Rise.
There was still some amusing representation at this year's event: Swedish furniture maker IKEA had a TGS booth for the very first time, pushing its gaming chairs and its gaming furniture line.
