Genetics aren't the only thing evolving in the upcoming Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution (Mew Two no Gyakushū Evolution) Pokémon film. The titular Mewtwo looks to be suiting up in a kind of power suit courtesy of Team Rocket's Giovanni.
Toymaker Takara Tomy opened a website for the armored Mewtwo figure earlier this month. A product videos hows the psychic Pokémon both with and without his armor.
Pre-orders opened on Friday and the figures are expected to ship on July 27. Each Mewtwo costs 4,860 yen (US$45).
Armored Mewtwo caused a wave a rumors earlier this year when GameFreak trademarked the phrase in February. Some speculated it was for movie merchandise (*ding ding*) while others thought it might be an introduced evolution in the upcoming Sword and Shield Switch games.
Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution (Mew Two no Gyakushū Evolution), the 22nd film in the Pokémon franchise, is a 3D CG remake of the 1998 film adapted into English as Pokémon: The First Movie.
The main cast of the anime series, along with the Team Rocket cast, return for the film. Masachika Ichimura is also reprising his role as Mewtwo from the original Pokémon: The First Movie. The late voice actor Unshō Ishizuka provided narration for the new film.
The film will open in Japan on July 12.
