posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Masaya Tsunamoto and Tsujitomo's Giant Killing soccer manga reached 50 compiled volumes on Thursday and the series is celebrating by reissuing the previous volumes with different professional players on the covers. A total of 50 J-League soccer players from each club in the J1 league appear on the special covers.
The special volumes will appear in bookstores until April. Fans can also pick up the covers at e-book sellers. The manga's first special volume features Kawasaki Frontale midfielder Kengo Nakamura.
Kodansha's Weekly Morning first published Giant Killing in 2007. Kodansha Comics began publishing the series digitally in 2017.
Kodansha Comics describes the story of Giant Killing:
A truly great coach makes a game of soccer interesting! Tatsumi Takeshi is 35 and has spent the last few years coaching in England before being brought back to Japan to coach his old team. His favorite pastime? Causing giant upsets—aka Giant Killing!
The series inspired a 2010 television anime, which Crunchyroll streamed as it aired in Japan. Crunchyroll removed the anime from its site in November 2012.
