CLAMP Designs Seal Books for Temple Pilgrimage Route's 1,300th Anniversary
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Creator team CLAMP is teaming up with a project to celebrate the 1,300th anniversary of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. CLAMP provided two designs for temple seal books for the collaboration. The front and back of both of the books have inverted colors.
The temple seal books are special editions of seal books that pilgrims and other people can use to collect seals from a variety of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples throughout Japan. The CLAMP-designed books went on sale on June 30, and they cost 2,300 yen (about US$20) each. Some of the temples on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage route are offering the books, but they are already sold out in a few locations. Each temple is only offering 70 of the books, and sales cease when those supplies run out. The anniversary website has current listings for the inventory at each temple selling the seal books.
The Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage includes 33 Buddhist temples in the Kansai region of Japan. The temples run through the prefectures of Wakayama, Osaka, Nara, Shiga, Kyoto, Hyōgo, and Gifu. The route is one of the various numbered pilgrimage routes throughout Japan.
The Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters anime film also inspired its own shrine and temple seal books last fall.
