1st Godzilla Anime Film Inspires Train Tourism Campaign
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The upcoming Godzilla anime film trilogy's first film, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei), will open in Japan on November 17 before debuting globally on Netflix later this year. Various promotions leading up to the release are underway, and the anime's official website revealed a collaboration with Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd.'s "Tanazawa x Ōyama Free Pass" train ticket and discount plan on Wednesday.
The collaboration will run from November 1 to December 10. The new anime film is set in the distant future in what was once the Tanzawa Mountains, which are in the Kantō region near Tokyo. Sightseeing locations around the area that the train pass is available in will offer Godzilla curry and manjū (steamed buns) during the campaign.
A three-meter (about 10-foot) Godzilla in the style of the local specialty kawarake-nage (pottery throwing) will go on display at the Ōyama-dera temple. A stairway at Ōyama-Afuri Shrine's lower shrine will have a Godzilla projection from November 18-26. The shrine will also offer a total of 500 special shrine and temple seal books for 1,500 yen (about US$13) each. In addition, a smartphone stamp rally will be held in the Mount Ōyama area and offer original images and voice messages.
Kana Hanazawa, who voices Yuko Tani in the film, is recording special in-car announcements for the collaboration. The announcements will play in certain limited-express Metro Momiji trains on November 25-26. The announcements will also play inside Mount Ōyama's cable cars throughout the entire campaign.
A full trailer for the upcoming film featuring the theme song "White Out" by XAI debuted on Tuesday.
Odakyu Electric Railway previously operated a Doraemon-themed train, which ended operations in 2011.
