Hetalia Gets Its 1st Official Manga Anthology
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
While the Hetalia manga has inspired plenty of dōjin (fan comics), it has yet to get an official manga anthology until now. The series' first anthology went on sale in Japan on November 24 and includes guest chapters by Rinko Akuta, Shino Agetate, Chika Ishikawa, Kaimu Eguchi, Noriko Kuwata, Aya Tsuyuki, Toriya, Bento Matsura, En Matsurugi, Yukiko, and Hitori Renda.
Series creator Hidekaz Himaruya drew the anthology's cover and additional color illustrations. Artists Toya Irasu, est em (Tableau Numéro 20), Kemuri Karakara (Laughing Under the Clouds), Asami, and Natsuki Sumeragi (Guin Saga) provided additional illustrations throughout the volume. The artists and illustrators also answered questions like "Which country would you want to be friends with?" in the compiled volume's bonus pages.
The series will get a second anthology volume on February 24.
Himaruya's Hetalia - Axis Powers manga series takes the archetypal characteristics of countries and regions throughout the world, and anthropomorphizes them as (mostly) bishōnen characters. Right Stuf released the manga in North America in collaboration with its former English-language publisher, Tokyopop, and its Japanese publisher Gentosha Comics.
Hetalia The World Twinkle, the sixth anime season inspired by Himaruya's manga, premiered in Japan in July 2015, and Funimation streamed the series as it aired. Funimation has released all the anime seasons and the Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White! film in North America.
