Full Moon, More Manga Artists Draw Pharmaceutical Character for 100th Birthday
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
100 years ago The Mentholatum Company, Inc., founded in 1889, introduced its mascot character "Little Nurse" or "Nurse-chan," as she's known in Japan. The cute, curly-haired girl has captured hearts overseas since the once American manufacturer was bought out by Japan's Rohto Pharmaceutical Company in 1988.
Several prominent manga artists came out in support of Little Nurse's 100th birthday by drawing their own rendition of the character, including Arina Tanemura, Momoko Sakura, Machiko Kyō, and more.

The company also held a contest on the art website pixiv asking users to create their own Little Nurse. The winners, along with the art by the above manga artists will appear in ads in Shinjuku station's Metro Promenade on November 12. November 12 is also known in Japan as "Good Health Day."
