Anime Spongebob Opening is Comedic Hyper-Violence
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Western animators have lampooned anime and its penchant for dramatics and violence in short videos before, but YouTuber Narmak has made it their calling card. Examples include "Attack on Ogre" with an over-sized Pikachu and young Shrek, "Scooby's Bizarre Adventure," and "Sonic the Hedgehog: The Dark Secret." Their latest video imagines an anime opening for Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants where Patrick, Sandy, Squidward, and Spongebob battle Plankton and a scheming Mr. Krabs. There's plenty of yaoi innuendo and gratuitous starfish flopping.
While I work on getting the video back up, I'll just post it here. Might as well haha pic.twitter.com/rjucAwOdTH

The YouTube video currently sits at 209,663 views since it went up on Wednesday, but a re-upload on Twitter has 147,366 retweets and 217,421 likes.
The Simpsons featured a parody of Pokémon Go in an episode last year while the cast of Doraemon went criminal in a video poking fun at Grand Theft Auto. Fox's Animation Domination High-Def channel created several anime parodies, including "Goku Makes a Sandwich," meshing Afro Samurai and Family Matters, Evangelion and Michael Bay, a battle between Naruto and Sasuke, the ultimate anime hero, a Studio Ghibli tribute, and super-powered schoolgirls.
