Mega Maker Puts Mega Man Levels in Players Hands
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Nintendo's Super Mario Maker for the Wii U and 3DS consoles is very popular with fans and creators alike. Polygon's "Devs Make Mario" video series even had Mega Man's Keiji Inafune create his own level. Players have also ditched Mario assets to create Mega Man within Super Mario Marker
Fan developer WreckingPrograms is creating a similar game in reverse, meaning if it doesn't fall victim to a DMCA order, Shigeru Miyamoto could make is own Mega Man level. The freeware program is titled Mega Maker and will allow users to create their own Mega Man levels and share them with one another.
The game's Stage Builder gives players access to 46 enemies, 29 level objects, 12 bosses, 24 special weapons, 40 backgrounds, 129 tile sets, and 63 music tracks. It also features a tutorial guide, rating system, and example levels. The official website hosts a Patreon to help cover the cost of a server to host player levels for sharing.
The game has been in development since September 2016 will be released on July 15. The team plans to release further updates with assets from Mega Man 7 and more.
