Splatoon 2 Splashes Into Kyoto Aquarium This Summer
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
In honor of Splatoon 2's release for the Nintendo Switch on July 12, Kyoto Aquarium will hold the "Suizokukaan ~Ikasu Natsu Yasumi~" collaboration with the game from July 15 to August 31.
A "water curtain" that is about 15 meters (about 49 feet) wide will run down from the aquarium's Dolphin Stadium. Visitors will be able to use real-world Splattershots to participate in the "Suizokukaan Splashtime" water shooting battle. In each session, 30 parent-child teams will shoot at targets and get soaked.
To celebrate the game's humanoid squid characters called Inklings, the "Ikazu Kenkyū Corner" will feature a special squid exhibit. The exhibit will showcase bigfin reef squid, which are not normally on display, and other types of squid. People will be able to read information panels to learn about the lives of squid.
The collaboration will display original art, and visitors will be able to take pictures with characters. For 1,000 yen (about US$9), guests will be able to visit four locations in the aquarium to use stamps to create their own original tenugui towels. The aquarium shop will sell T-shirts and tote bags with the collaboration's original art. In addition, the event will feature a "Suizokukaan Tree" made of Japanese giant salamander and Inkling plush.
TAKARA TOMY A.R.T.S and Kamio Japan's Kūsō Suizokukan (Fantasy Aquarium) characters are also collaborating with Mr. Osomatsu to hold the "Honmono Suizokukan Tours" (Real Aquarium Tours) event this summer. Kyoto Aquarium is one of the participating aquariums.
