'Best of Anime II' Commercial is Full of 90s Nostalgia
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
During the 1990s, Central Park Media's U.S. Manga Corps teamed up with media subscription service Columbia House to offer "grown-up" animation to fans with a credit card. The medium was, according to this throwback commercial, "taking the world by storm!" The mail service offered a selection of CPM's catalog on VHS and the commercial sometimes ran during Toonami's Midnight Run block and the Sci Fi Channel's (now Syfy) Saturday Anime block.
Video catalog extras are still included on DVD and Blu-ray releases of anime today, usually showing similar series options released by the same company. In the 90s, U.S. Manga Corps included a music video (set to an instrumental version of "Fairy Dreamin'" from Genocyber) of its catalog. This one was found on the VHS copy of Battle Arena Toshinden and includes lots of robots.
