Fan Designs Extensively Detailed Ghibli Theme Park

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Ghibli film fan and artist Takumi is making his fellow Ghibli enthusiasts dreams come true with dream-like theme park designs based on the studio's works. The detailed layout posted on pixiv last week shows rides inspired by Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Tales from Earthsea, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and more.

Starting in the bottom left corner of the map and working clockwise, the theoretical visitors at Tokyo Ghibli Land would first see the Cat Monorail (My Neighbor Totoro) which extends the full perimeter of the park, not unlike Disneyland's, albeit much furrier. Customers enter through the ticketing area and past an orange clock tower. To the left is an Aviation Museum featuring planes inside a Goliath airship (Castle in the Sky). The barge hosts a real version Flaptter (Castle in the Sky), Jiro's Bird Plane (The Wind Rises), and more.

North of the Aviation Museum is a replica of Koriko town and Gutiokipanja bakery (Kiki's Delivery Service) where visitors can grab some fresh bread before embarking on the Sea of Decay Cruise (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind).

Heading north, visitors can take a ride on a classic Viking ship ride refitted to look like Therru's Dragon (Tales of Earth Sea). The Flying Flaptters and Tiger Moth Adventure 3D (Castle in the Sky) stands nearby, but the most impressive ride is the Automobile Mountain coaster towering above Uncle Pom's Planetarium (Castle in the Sky). Laputa's Labyrinth is also constructed for visitors looking to get lost for awhile. The Hatter Hat Shop (Howl's Moving Castle) is also carefully recreated for discerning customers of all things haberdashery. Off in the distance is Hotel Adriano (Porco Rosso) for visitors looking for the complete Ghibli vacation.

Past Laputa's Labyrinth is the tranquil Shishigami's Animal Forest filled with the god-like animals from Princess Mononoke and spirits of the forest. If visitors are looking for something sweet, Zeniba's Cake Factory offers hospitality only a swamp witch could provide. In the center of a lake is a recreation of Irontown (Princess Mononoke) with a nearby carousel where young and old can ride their own Yakul. Atelier Antique Shop (Whisper of the Heart) has all the souvenirs visitors could want. Across the bridge is the festival-style "Eat-Like-A-Pig" food court (Spirited Away), a recreation of the Aburaya Bathhouse for visitors to rest (Spirited Away), and Jiro's Bird-Plane ride (The Wind Rises). Nestled in a wooded area is Mei's Acorn Hut (My Neighbor Totoro).

Next to the forest is Mei and Sasuki's house (My Neighbor Totoro) and in the backyard is a field of safflowers where guests can pick their own bouquet (Only Yesterday). Next door is Princess Kaguya's Bamboo Grove (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya) and Sousuke's Pop Pop Shop (Ponyo). Visitors can hitch a ride on a boat from the Pop Pop Shop to reach the Marsh House (When Marnie Was There). A short walk south is Fujimoto's Twenty Thousand Leagues and the Devonian Period Aquarium (Ponyo) housed inside a giant jellyfish, and The Cat's Office (The Cat Returns) and Manpuku-ji Temple (Pom Poko).

In the center of it all is Calcifer (Howl's Moving Castle) re-imagined as a giant furnace-like house at Kingsbury Square.

How do you like Takumi's designs? Are there any rides or attractions you would add to the park? Let us know in the forums.
