Akihabara Rental Service Lets You Hang Out With a NEET
posted on by Chris Nishijima
NEETs have often been described as a recent "social plague" that has been hitting Japan as of late. The typical image of a NEET is someone bumming off of their parents, making no attempt to contribute to society or make any money for themselves. However, one clever fellow has found a way to make a name for himself despite being neither employed, in education, or in training.
"Rental NEET" is a unique kind of service that allows you to hang out with a self proclaimed NEET at a rate of 1000 yen (9.75 USD) for one hour. The list of activities that you can do while spending time with your NEET friend include "playing Pokémon (Emerald or White)", having "Yu-Gi-Oh! card battles", and "building Gundam Models."
Rental NEET even has a homepage and blog through the popular Japanese blog site Ameba. There you can follow the misadventures of being a NEET in the big city. He's strangely popular with high schoolers it seems. One client has even treated him to a meal of coffee and french fries.
So, if you find yourself in Akihabara anytime soon, look out for a friendly looking fellow in a white dress shirt and black slacks carrying a sign around. You might find him to be pretty NEET.
