Naruto, Kenshin Creators Design Manga Trenchcoats

Japanese department store chain Isetan is displaying the latest manga-inspired fashion — manga trenchcoats — in its Shinjuku branch this week. The linings of the coats feature original designs from nine manga creators and two fashion brands:

Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto): Scye men's and ladies', Muller of Yoshio Kubo men's and ladies'

Kazue Katō (Blue Exorcist): Scye ladies'

Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin): Muller of Yoshio Kubo men's and ladies'

Jigoku no Misawa (Kakko-Kawaii Sengen!): Scye ladies'

Fusako Kuramochi (40th Anniversary Collage): Scye ladies'

Shinobu Nishimura (The Sand and Iris): Scye ladies'

Kozueko Morimoto (Ashi-Girl): Muller of Yoshio Kubo ladies'

Satoru Makimura (40th Anniversary Collage): Muller of Yoshio Kubo ladies'

Masashi Kishimoto's Scye trench coat (pictured left in top photograph) will retail for 145,950 yen (about US$1,832) for the ladies' and for 160,640 (US$2,016) for men's. Takeshi Konomi's Muller of Yoshio Kubo coats (pictured right in top photograph) will sell for 129,150 yen (US$1,621) for the ladies' and 103,950 yen (US$1,305) for the men's. However, since there is only a limited number of the trenchcoats, a random drawing will be held for the chance to buy each coat.

The "Manga Trench" campaign is part of a collaboration between Shueisha's SPUR fashion magazine and Isetan's limited-time event "Store Japan." The coats will be display from October 31 to November 6.
