Bodacious Space Pirates' Bentenmaru Ship Gets Plastic Model
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Anime studio Satelight announced at a special event on Wednesday that a plastic model of the Bentenmaru spaceship from the Bodacious Space Pirates (Mōretsu Pirates) television anime series will be released. The studio said that more information will be available in September and also announced that a figure of the high-school-girl-turned-pirate-captain Marika will be offered.
The anime's director Tatsuo Satō, voice actress Mikako Komatsu (Marika), voice actor Yoshitsugu Mastuoka (San-Daime), and Bentenmaru's anime designer Naohiro Washio attended the "Satelight Anime Night Vol. 3 ~Mōretsu Pirates Night!~" event. The video service niconico Live streamed the event as it took place in Tokyo's Suginami ward. (The announcement comes at the 48-minute mark.)
An anime adaptation of Yuichi Sasamoto's Mini-Skirt Uchū Kaizoku (Mini-Skirt [Space] Pirates) space-opera novels was first revealed in 2009 for release in 2011. The television series was relaunched under the new Mōretsu Pirates title at Tokyo Anime Fair in 2010.
Bodacious Space Pirates premiered in Japan on January 7, and Crunchyroll is streaming the show as it airs. Sentai Filmworks announced in December that it licensed the anime series for release in North America.
