The software and anime creator Type-Moon's April Fool's Day project "Room of the April Witch" will ship with a voice recording by singer/actress Maaya Sakamoto. Released by the Japanese publisher Star Seas Company, Meteo Hoshizora's short story will ship as a book (tankoubon) with a CD of Sakamoto reading the work. "Room of the April Witch" originally appeared with Type-Moon's art on the company's official website in April.
The story follows a young woman named April who is accused of being a witch. While suffering torture for her alleged crime, April admits that she is a witch. After that time, the young woman becomes a witch with the power to turn a lie into reality. April shuts herself away to confine this terrifying power, but she opens her room to visitors every year on April 1.
Type-Moon has posted April Fool's Day joke projects on their website in past years, including a spoof of the live-action Dragonball: Evolution film in 2009.
Sakamoto is well-known for her singing career as well as projects as a voice actress. Among numerous anime roles, Sakamoto has voiced Nino in Arakawa Under the Bridge, Masako Yoshii in Usagi Drop, and Ciel Phantomhive in Black Butler.
According to Amazon.co.jp, the "Room of the April Witch" book will ship with Sakamoto's recording on November 16 for a 2,500 yen (about US$33) retail price.
