One Piece Manga #63 Gets Record 3.9-Million Print Run
posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese publisher Shueisha is producing 3.9 million copies of the 63rd volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga — the latest of seven volume in the series to set a manga record for the most copies in its first printing. The volume is shipping on Thursday.
The previous volume, volume 62, matched but did not beat the former record of 3.8 million copies set by volume 61 — in part due to the March 11 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster. Volume 62 sold 2,367,582 copies by the end of its first official week sales this past May, and sold at least 2,845,321 copies as of June 12.
All told, 240 million copies of the entire manga series have been printed; One Piece has had the highest number of copies printed of any Shueisha manga series in Japan.
