Perfect Blue Storyboards Sold on Satoshi Kon's Site
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The official website of the late director Satoshi Kon is selling the storyboards that he drew for his 1997 psycho-thriller anime Perfect Blue. The ZIP-compressed PDF "book" is available for 2,100 yen (about $26), and the website takes payments from PayPal, which can convert between currencies.
Produced by the Madhouse studio, Perfect Blue was Satoshi Kon's first feature film as director. Its main character is Mima, a former pop star who is trying to become an actress in Tokyo. After she films a traumatic rape scene, she experiences terrifying visions and begins to lose her grip on reality.
Satoshi Kon passed away last August from pancreatic cancer. He will be the subject of a tribute exhibition in Tokyo from August 12 to 24 in Shinjuku, showing his animation illustrations, original manga drawings, and personal sketches. There is some information about the exhibition, mostly in Japanese, here and here.
