Pokémon Fireworks to Light Up Japan This Summer
posted on by Egan Loo
The Pokémon Fireworks project will launch this summer at festivals throughout Japan — particularly in the quake-hit Tōhoku region — to lift the spirits of children. The Fireworks will light up in the image of the main Pokémon character Pikachu as well as Victini, the pivotal character in this year's two Pokémon feature films, Gekijōban Pocket Monster Best Wishes! Victini to Kuroki Eiyū Zekrom and Gekijōban Pocket Monster Best Wishes! Victini to Shiroki Eiyū Reshiram. One highlight of the two-minute display will be the world's largest Pokéball (pictured at right).
The Pikachu Project, the production committee behind the Pokémon films, planned the Fireworks to support the people in areas hardest hit by the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake disaster (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) of March 11. The Pokémon Fireworks will debut at the 9th Annual Noshiro Minato Matsuri Hanabi Taikai (Noshiro Harbor Festival Fireworks Display) in Akita Prefecture on July 23. It will then go to Aomori, Niigata, Iwate, and Yamagata — all prefectures heavily affected by the earthquake. It will also go to Osaka, Fukuoka, and finally, Tokyo on August 27.
The group Every Little Thing will perform the theme songs "Sora" and "Koe" for the two films, 15 years after their debut.
