Canadian Rocker Got 'Chibi' Stage Name from Sailor Moon
posted on by Gia Manry
In an interview with the Orange County Weekly's Dave Good, singer "Chibi" of the Canadian rock band The Birthday Massacre noted that she first acquired her nickname from the television anime Sailor Moon. (The singer keeps her real name a secret.) She said that she named her cat "Chibi" after the character Sailor Chibi Moon (Chibi-Usa in Japanese; Rini in the English-language version), and then "stole" the nickname for herself when seeking a stage name.
In the television series, Chibi-Usa is a little girl from the future who goes back in time to find Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Senshi (Sailor Scouts in the English version) in order to help save her mother. The character was able to transform into "Sailor Chibi Moon" starting in the show's third season, Sailor Moon S.
