Trivia:
Loosely based on the book Daddy-Long-Legs by Jean Webster.
A sequel to the story called "After Maria" can be found in the back of the Third Volume of the Cherry Project. This sequel was a collaboration between Naoko Takeuchi and Neko Nekobe, who is best known for Goldfish Warning.
