This movie was originally plan to be a 60 minute film.
According to Andrew Orjuela, had this movie of been a success there would have been a sequel that would either of been another direct to video movie or an animated TV series.
The story was based on the very first stand-alone Lady Death comic titled "The Reckoning".
Andrew Orjuela stated that the most challenging thing about this movie was trying to create the look of Hell. He clarified that he didn't want to make the location of Hell look similar to previous media interpretations, but to have it depicted as an entirely original looking place.
While it wasn't made clear how long it took Hope to master her skills in using a sword, according to Andrew Orjuela, he always envisioned the time lapse as being over a course of seven years.
The production of this movie took so long, that by the time it got released, Chaos Comics (Lady Death’s original publisher) which gave permission for the movie to be made had since gone out of business due to bankruptcy. At the time the movie got released, Lady Death’s publishing rights were being handled by CrossGen Comics, and since then the title character’s publishing rights had switched hands to a couple other comic companies.
The locations of the country of Sweden in this movie were inspired by the photos taken by some of staff members who travelled to the country for research as it was proven to be an easier method than finding an actual reference book with the pictures.
This movie was released the same year as the tenth anniversary of Lady Death’s first stand alone comic book issue.
