Trivia:
The book that Kasane is reading in eps 12 and 19 is Miyazawa Kenji's "Night of the Galactic Railroad." That book is also alluded to in ep 9 "The Forest of Campanella," the name of one of the main characters.
There are many references to Miyazawa in the series. The title itself is probably inspired by his story "the Twin Stars"
Kasane Shibata's cat from Episode 12, "Laika", bears the same name as the first animal launched into Earth orbit. "Лайка" in Russian, the former stray dog was carried into space aboard Sputnik 2 in 1957.
