When Harmony Gold licensed the series, Minky Momo was renamed Gigi, reportedly after the daughter of company president Frank Agrama.

In episode 46, Minky Momo is hit and killed by a truck carrying toys. According to an interview with creator Takeshi Sudo on the magazine Out, the episode was in response to toy company Popy pulling out their sponsorship after episode 45 due to declining toy sales. The scene shows Kamen Rider masks among the toys that fall out of the truck, as Kamen Rider was one of the franchises licensed by Popy at the time.

In Episode 60, a pram careening down steps is a tribute to the famous Odessa Steps scene in the silent movie Battleship Potemkin
