In Episode 4, around 20:20, as Hitoha's flotation device springs a leak, a string quartet is shown playing. The same song (A version of the song "Nearer, My God, To Thee") is played by a quartet during a scene in Titanic (1997) as the ship is going down.
In Episode 8 - when Sugisaki's mother is buying roasted sweet potatoes, the vendor tells her that she is young, she asks back how old does she seems to be, and the vendor replies that she seems to be 20 year-old, but changes to 17 year-old. When she confirms that she is 17 years old (even she obviously does not appears to be 17) the surrounding people say oy, oy. That's a punchline to Inoue Kikuko - who states herself as eternal 17. Inoue Kikuko is the seiyuu of Sugisaki Marina (Sugisaki Miku's mother)
