The February 2018 issue of Kodansha's Kiss magazine revealed on Monday that live-action film adaptation of Rie Aruga's Perfect World manga will open in Japan on October 5, 2018.
Sandaime J Soul Brothers and Exile member Takanori Iwata (live-action Crows Explode film) will play Itsuki Ayukawa, and Hana Sugisaki (live-action Blade of the Immortal film) will play Tsugumi Kawana. Kenji Shibayama (Nagareboshi ga Kienai Uchi ni, Kimi no Suki na Uta) is directing the film, and Keiko Kanome (Time Slip Megane, Chibi Maruko-chan) is writing the script.
The manga centers on 26-year-old Tsugumi Kawana, an employee in an interior design company. When she attends a get-together with employees from a construction firm, she has an unexpected reunion with Itsuki Ayukawa, an old flame from high school. Tsugumi still thinks of her time with him fondly, but now she finds that he has to move around in a wheelchair, and initially thinks that reviving a romance with him would be impossible.
Aruga launched the manga in Kiss magazine in February 2015. Kodansha published the manga's sixth compiled book volume on September 13.
